Description
Features
LyX (http://www.lyx.org) is a word processor and document creation system. It is particularly suited for technical papers and journal publications which require the highest levels of typographical sophistication, bullet-proof cross-referencing and conformance to layout and typographical requirements.
LyX provides a WYSIWYM (what you see is what you mean) interface and a powerful document rendering engine based on the powerful and highly respected LaTeX system. The WYSIWYM interface allows the author to concentrate on content creation, knowing that the LaTeX engine will optimise the document formating for the best possible result.
LyX operates in two modes with simple switching between the two
- a layout mode for editing your document content; and
- a render mode for viewing how the finished product will look
All the essential elements of the LaTeX engine are supported such as
- document style templates
- mathematical formulas of arbitrary complexity
- footnotes
- figure and illustration cross referencing
- bibliography creation
- master documents
LaTeX power users can even directly edit the LaTeX code for custom tweaks.
LyX is a highly mature and trusted package and is included in many Linux distributions by default.
