VELS Learning Domain: The Humanities

Humanities knowledge and understanding Dimension

Focus on key humanities knowledge and concepts. Students learn about:

  • their immediate and local community and environment
  • history and geography of their country
  • diversity of culture and environment.

Through structured activities they learn the concepts of time and space:

  • time as chronology and sequencing, change and continuity
  • spatial concepts of location, distance, scale and distribution.

Humanities skills

The Humanities skills dimension focuses on the development of basic inquiry skills including

  • observation
  • collection of various types of evidence
  • asking and answering questions about evidence
  • presenting information in a variety of ways.

In levels 4, 5 & 6 Humanities is broken into the following sub-domains
